Why It’s So Difficult For Men to Ask For Help

Boot camps for men are becoming popular, and it’s not surprising that there is skepticism and even outright criticism of them.

For people who don’t understand them, like comedian Chelsea Handler, these boot camp experiences may look strange, and even, well, stupid.

I completely disagree.

These boot camps are a rite of passage for men who want to gain certainty from within themselves, and become better husbands and fathers.

Centuries ago, young men went through rites of passage like hunting a predator, but we no longer do this.

Men who want to become strong have to hunt a wolf, figuratively, so they can become better men.

Being able to make intelligent decisions with money, rather than be impulsive, or ignore purchases that “don’t count” means you have that emotional fitness.

When you have two people who mix their finances, it can quickly create tension if you aren’t on the same page about money, or don’t know where the money is going at the end of the month.

After 30 years of steadily growing his winery, his business was seriously threatened by the California wildfires. He came to me looking for guidance to improve his mindset and find the certainty it would take to get his business back on track rather than declaring bankruptcy. He was able to successfully navigate this hard time by looking at his father and grandfather for inspiration. When he found his code to the Edge, he went from being hurt by the storm to becoming the storm. He was able to bring his business back and then continue to grow even bigger than before. Watch this episode to learn how an unstoppable mindset will help you get your business back on track.

Conversation starters for troubled marriages

After taking a week off so Raul could teach a boot camp, the GMS Podcast is back. In this episode, Raul and Vivian discuss how difficult it is for men to be vulnerable. As men, we have been conditioned to not ask for help, and to armor yourself in order to go into battle. But that armor becomes isolating, and ends up becoming a barrier to connecting with your partner, with your friends, and with God.
