Burnout VS Depression: Why The Modern Businessman is Losing His EDGE
Stress. Anxiety. Fear.
These are the number one reasons people are depressed right now. The pressure is at an all-time high.
You’re stressed about the future. Stressed about your business. Stressed about your life.
But here is the brutal truth nobody talks about in the boardroom: Men die three times faster from depression than women.
Why? Because we are prone to silence.
One out of ten men experience deep depression and anxiety, but almost none reach out for help. We feel guilty. We feel shame. Society told us we are supposed to be “strong.” So when we feel anxiety, we interpret it as weakness.
If you are a successful entrepreneur feeling empty inside, you aren’t just “burnt out.” You might be facing the silent killer: businessman depression.
The "Successful" Mask
I know this because I lived it.
I lost my edge and fell into a deep hole. I had physical pain in my body so severe I thought I had cancer. I saw doctors. I saw specialists. Every single one told me: “Raul, this is in your head. You’re going through stress.”
But that didn’t make sense to me.
At the time, I was running a successful practice. I had a great marriage. I had beautiful kids. On paper, I had absolutely nothing to be depressed about.
So, I did what most businessmen do. I tried to drink my way out of it.
I put on my suit. I went to the office. Everyone looked at me and said, “Raul is successful. He has his life together.”
Nobody knew I was drinking half a bottle of tequila every night just to numb the pain. Nobody knew the darkness I was in.
I was a Sedated Warrior. And if you’re reading this, you might be one too.
The Tunnel: It’s Not A Midlife Crisis
People looked at me and said, “Raul, you went through a midlife crisis.”
I don’t believe in midlife crises.
I believe in a Rite of Passage.
In the tribal days, if you wanted to be a leader, you went into the wilderness. You killed the wolf. You came back worthy.
Today? Nobody prepares us to kill the wolf. Nobody prepares men for the emotional fitness required to handle the pressure of high-ticket sales and massive responsibility.
I discovered that men go through distinct stages. Understanding where you are is the only way to break out of the depression loop.
The Peasant: This is the victim mentality. The world is wrong, and you are right. You blame everyone else.
The Warrior: You stop blaming and start working. You sharpen your skills. You hustle. Society worships this stage. We see it in movies. Every man wants to be a warrior.
The Sedated Warrior ( The Danger Zone): Being a warrior isn’t sustainable. Hustling 24/7 is exhausting. You make money, but you lose purpose. You feel disconnected, low energy, and unfocused. This is where businessman depression thrives.
The King: This is the man with the EDGE. He has energy. He is determined. He is guided by a purpose bigger than himself. He executes not for perfection, but for progress.
Can Digital Coaching Platforms Actually Help?
A lot of guys ask the internet: “Can digital coaching platforms assist entrepreneurs struggling with depression?”
The answer is yes, but only if they solve the root cause of the problem: Isolation.
You don’t need another generic “self-help” course. You don’t need more information. You are already smart; you run a business.
You need The EDGE. And the EDGE comes from three specific things that digital platforms must facilitate:
Association: Who are you surrounded by? Are you with Peasants who complain, or Kings who call you to a higher standard? You cannot fight this battle alone.
Accountability: Who is watching you? When you are accountable to other men, you show up differently. You stop hiding.
Action Plan: Not a complex 10-year vision. A simple, intentional plan to get 1% better today.
If a platform gives you a Brotherhood, it can save your life. It pulled me out of the tunnel, and it has pulled thousands of other men out too.
How To Find Your EDGE Again
If you are in the tunnel right now, I want you to ask yourself these four questions. This is how you start the climb:
What is the life you want to create? Stop looking at the pain. Look outside. What is possible?
Why do you want to do it? We lose our edge when we forget our “Why.” I forgot mine until I saw my son watching me while I was hungover.
Who will suffer if you don’t do it? Who pays the price if you don’t show up? Use this as leverage.
Who must I become? This is the most important one. Who must you become to conquer your darkness?
Stop Fighting Alone
Depression is a silent killer. It convinces you that you are weak for feeling pain.
It is lying to you.
Going through the tunnel doesn’t make you weak. It is the prerequisite for becoming a King. But you have to choose to face the darkness.
You are either going to be somebody’s excuse, or somebody’s reason to level up.
If you are ready to stop sedating and start leading, you need to be in a room with men who are killing the wolf.
